LP SCC Opposes Measures A and B

The Libertarian Party of Santa Clara County today announces its opposition to two parcel tax measures that will appear on the November ballot: "Measure A" in the eastern part of San Jose and "Measure B" in the Los Gatos area.

With Measure A, the Berryessa Union Elementary School District is asking the voters to approve a continuation of a $79 per parcel tax. This tax is estimated to cost residents $1.8 million per year, for eight years.

With Measure B, the Los Gatos Union School District is asking not only for a continuation of a $290 per parcel tax, but another $45 per parcel on top of that, for a total of $335. This tax is estimated to cost residents $3.2 million dollars per year, for eight years.

The Libertarian Party opposes property taxes and supports reduction of government involvement in education, favoring private alternatives including home schooling, and the eventual complete "Separation of School and State".
